Dazey is a maximalist graphic, fashion, and interior designer who runs the clothing brand Dazey LA. Trixie Motel will be on TV in 2022. She’ll be working with famous drag queen Trixie Mattel to fix up an old Palm Springs motel. She’ll be like Joanna Gaines and the Property Brothers.

We asked Dazey for some advice on how to improve your home.

During this time, you’re making changes to a hotel for the first time. How did you become a part of this?

a lot of casting directors have reached out to me by accident. This is what I’ve been told. “I found your account on TikTok,” they’ve all said to me. How weird is that? I’ve been using Instagram for a long time, but only this year did I start playing around with TikTok. When I decorate my house, it’s so crazy and bold. There’s been a lot of interest in “maximalism.” A TikTok video app like this can change your life in such a big way.

You can start with a small project like painting if you want to change the look of your room but aren’t sure if you can do it well enough.

Somewhere in the past, people were afraid of colour and didn’t know how to use it. It’s something I do all the time: I make a circle mural on a wall every time. It’s just a big dot behind a bed, a couch, or a piece of furniture. Fun and cheap: You can add a splash of colour to your space that looks good.

People should spend money on what piece of furniture.

Couches. There are two things you want: comfort and beauty. Unless you buy something good, they won’t last as long. There’s so much wear and tear on them.

What about an item that costs less but is still good?

Seeing people change out cabinets and credenzas is one of my favourite things to see. When you want to change out the hardware on an old cabinet, it’s the easiest thing ever.
